A small Halifax catering studio with a very specific way of working

Who we are and what we actually do
Forgelpixel is a catering studio based at 2147 Gottingen Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We design and deliver bespoke food experiences for weddings, corporate gatherings, and private events across the Halifax Regional Municipality and broader Maritimes. We were founded in 2017 by chef-duo Mara and Joel Forgel, who had spent the previous decade working in professional kitchens in Halifax and Montreal before deciding they wanted to build something smaller and more deliberate. The company has eight full-time staff — three chefs, two event coordinators, and three service leads — plus a roster of trusted part-time servers we've worked with for years. We don't use agency temps for events. Every person who shows up at your event has worked a Forgelpixel kitchen or service before. Since 2017, we've delivered more than 340 catered events ranging from a 10-person private chef dinner on the Halifax waterfront to a 280-guest wedding in the Annapolis Valley. We serve clients who care about the food at their event and are willing to spend the time to get it right — typically two to four planning conversations before the menu is finalised.
How we work — and where we draw the line
The Forgelpixel process is built around a simple premise: every event has a specific group of people, a specific occasion, and a specific place — and the food should reflect all three. We start every engagement with a discovery call, move to a written menu proposal, and refine through feedback (and, for weddings, a tasting). We source from Nova Scotia farms and fishers wherever possible, building menus around what's actually available and excellent right now rather than what's convenient to import year-round. We have working relationships with six local suppliers including a certified organic farm in Hants County and two independent fish markets on the Halifax waterfront. We're honest about what doesn't suit us: we don't cater events under 10 guests as standalone bookings — the logistics don't make sense for either party at that scale. We don't operate as a grab-and-go food provider. And the quality of what arrives at your event depends substantially on the quality of the brief we start with: the more clearly you can articulate what you're after, the better the result.
